The Amy Foundation is a Non-Profit Organisation that specialises in programmes to develop and empower children and youth (aged 5-35 years) in challenged and vulnerable communities within the Western Cape. Learners are mainly from the townships of Gugulethu, Khayelitsha, Nyanga, Langa, Crossroads, Philippi and Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats.

Owing to the huge inadequacies in the schools, the After-School Programme supplements the shortcomings of the educational system in the township areas. The Foundation’s Centre in Sybrand Park, Athlone, runs the Youth Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Programme (YSD), which focuses on unemployed youth aged mainly 18-35. This offers skills training to school-leavers and unemployed youth and is designed to address the unacceptably high unemployment levels in these challenged communities. It also offers Vocational Skills Training to high-school learners who get the opportunity to sample what the possibilities are after they leave school.

The Foundation’s data-base is currently standing at 468 Learners, and its placement success rate is approximately 75%.

The Distell Development Trust’s involvement is mainly in the YSD programme.
